BENICIA — CALIFORNIA58 LOCAL. Benicia’s marina breakwater rehabilitation project entered construction September 21, 2026, according to the city’s capital project record. The City Council approved a contract on June 23 with Power Engineering Construction Company for approximately $3.54 million.
Public infrastructure and community impact
City assessments found that while the breakwater remained functional, some structural components had deteriorated to poor, serious or critical condition. The repairs include replacement of the northwest breakwater-wall segment, work on vertical and battered piles, sheet walls and structural hardware, and repairs to the tidal gate.
Marina users should be prepared for work barges and temporarily reduced channel width or depth during construction. The city warns that deep-draft vessels may face restrictions and encourages checking tide conditions before departure.
The city’s tentative timeline projects completion in early 2027. Normal work hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with construction noise likely near the marina. A projected completion date is not evidence work has already ended.
Benicia’s project contact is senior civil engineer Derek Linsley at dlinsley@ci.benicia.ca.us. Mariners should follow on-water notices and updated navigational directions rather than depend on a general news summary.
