BENICIA — CALIFORNIA58 LOCAL. Benicia has marked a series of mechanical upgrades at its Water Treatment Plant complete, with construction ending in May 2026. The city reports a $1,284,240 construction cost for the project, approved in February 2025 and undertaken by Corcus Construction, Inc.
Public infrastructure and community impact
The work covered failed piping under the operations building, replacement of backwash equipment and meters, repairs to sedimentation basin gates, and mechanical and structural corrections at the raw-water diversion structure.
Much of a treatment plant’s work occurs out of public view. But pipes, valves and basin systems are important to maintaining reliable drinking-water treatment. Repairing these components is a capital maintenance investment, not the same as developing a new water source or adding a residential service connection.
The city financed the work through its Water Major Capital Projects Fund. According to the published project page, construction ran from April 2025 to May 2026 and is now categorized as a completed 2026 project.
Residents with concerns about current water quality should consult the city’s up-to-date test results and official advisories. Completion of mechanical repairs by itself neither establishes a past violation nor guarantees all future operational issues have been eliminated.
